When I paint a landscape my aim is to show the viewer my vision of a special place with lively color, lyrical shapes and bold line, not necessarily what a casual tourist might see.
I blend greatly abstracted shapes with realism, sometimes flatten space, use exaggerated or arbitrary color, and often delineate objects. My goal is to produce a painting that is not a “postcard” view but will intrigue the viewer and prolong interest.
To quote Robert Henri, “There are moments in our lives when we seem to see beyond the usual.”
